Detroit Books: Traditional & Current

Automotive

Detroit Books are in every automotive trim shop in America, and seeing their numbered spines brings nostalgia. Some are highly sought after by collectors trying to keep their lineage of books going as long as they can, but as a resource for OEM fabric replacement jobs, there is nothing better.

Detroit Books are in every automotive trim shop in America, and seeing their numbered spines brings nostalgia. Some are highly sought after by collectors trying to keep their lineage of books going as long as they can, but as a resource for OEM fabric replacement jobs, there is nothing better. (Unless you happen to catch a year where the fabric is missing). A popular "tool" in the shop starting in the early '60s, these books give you a sense of confidence when ordering the right fabric for the job. At Miami, our earliest book is 1961. Even though many of these fabrics no longer exist, it's a great way to access the look and feel of the time period. Seeing the original fabric can give you a good idea of what could be a close match in another OEM pattern or an aftermarket cloth. We also have many shops that just mail in a small swatch of what they are searching for, and our team here at Miami tries to match them up, either finding the original or a close match to give your customer options. If you are looking to purchase or sell previous years' books to the automotive trim community, some shops are using thehogring.com to advertise what books are available.
